A Palestinian man in the northern West Bank city of Nablus succumbed to his wounds caused by Israeli forces' fire during an Israeli military raid two weeks ago, the Palestinian health ministry announced.

The victim was 25-year-old Mohammad Arayshi, a resident of Nablus. He was pronounced dead in the Rafidia Surgical Hospital in the city at 4:30 am on Tuesday after suffering a cardio-pulmonary stroke.

"Arayshi was wounded by an Israeli live bullet in the stomach during the Israeli raid into Nablus on the 9th of August," Mohammad Raei, a human rights activist based in Nablus, told The New Arab.

The Israeli raid targeted the old city, and Israeli forces killed two Palestinian militants after a gunfight, Ibrahim Nabulsi and Islam Suboh, and a 16-year-old civilian, Hussein Jamal Taha.

"Mohammad Arayshi was not a militant; he was a civilian," said Raei. "Israeli forces had raided Nablus' eastern part, from where they raided the old city. It was there that Arayshi took part in throwing stones at the Israeli troops before being shot."

"Arayshi underwent four surgeries to save him, but the damage done by the bullet and he died on Tuesday," Raei added.

"Mohammad was beloved by everyone who knew him," Zeid Arayshi, his older brother, told The New Arab. "He was the one to take care of our cancer-ill father and stayed with him at his house."

"He worked two jobs. During the day, he sold sweet corn at a park in the city, and at night he worked as a janitor in Nablus' municipality. He was the main source of income for the family," the victim's brother noted.

"The bullet damaged his intestines, liver and kidney, to the point he had to take dialysis sessions during his treatment," his brother further described. "The last thing he told me was that if he died, he wanted to be buried beside our mother."

Arayshi was buried Tuesday in Nablus at noon, with hundreds of Palestinians taking part in the funeral that marched through the city's main square and the old city's alleys.

Israeli forces have repeatedly raided Nablus in recent weeks, killing eight Palestinians in the city since July and wounding dozens.

Last week, Israeli forces killed a Palestinian teenager during a military raid that aimed at supporting Israeli settlers storming a religious site in the city.

Eyewitnesses told The New Arab that the teenager was "directly" shot at by Israeli soldiers while holding a flashlight in front of a house.

In late July, the killing of Ibrahim Nabulsi and Islam Suboh, two armed militants in the old city of Nablus, and 16-year-old Hussein Taha triggered a series of protests and confrontations against Israeli forces across the West Bank and Jerusalem.

On Tuesday, a commercial strike was launched in Nablus in mourning of Mohammad Arayshi. Palestinian foreign ministry condemned the killing of Arayshi, describing it as "a war crime and crime against humanity".

The statement also warned against "treating Palestinian victims as mere numbers that hide the size and level of suffering of Palestinian families, as a result of stealing the life of a beloved one".

Since the beginning of 2022, Israeli forces have killed over 140 Palestinians, 47 of whom were killed by airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, earlier in August, according to the Palestinian health ministry figures.
