Palestinian woman shot after 'trying to stab Israel cops with scissors'

A Palestinian woman was injured on Tuesday after being shot by Israeli forces after she allegedly tried to stab border police officers with scissors at a gas station near the Israeli settlement of Mishor Adumim in occupied East Jerusalem.

Israeli police claim the woman took out "something sharp" and attempted to stab officers during a security check at the station.

"Female terrorist attempted to stab border police officers at the petrol station near Mishor Adumim," a desert area east of Jerusalem, spokesman Micky Rosenfeld claimed.

"Female terrorist neutralised at the scene. No injuries to officers," he said in a statement.

A separate police statement identified her as a 37-year-old Palestinian from Yata, a town south of Hebron in the southern West Bank.

Police had been alerted to the scene after a civilian reported she was acting in a suspicious way at a falafel shop in the gas station complex and located her, the statement said.

After calling on her to stop, she pulled out scissors from her bag and ran at the officers while shouting, it said.

Pictures were posted on Twitter purporting to be of a pair of scissors and a small knife found at the scene.

She was shot in the leg and moderately wounded, police said, claiming she was in possession of a knife.

Israeli ambulance crews rushed to the scene and the surrounding area was closed off.

The alleged attack comes just a day after a similar incident, in which a Palestinian man was shot after allegedly attempting to stab Israeli civilians near the West Bank settlement of Kiryat Arba.

Lone wolf attacks occur sporadically in the occupied West Bank, many of them carried out by Palestinians on Israeli forces or on settlers.
