Teenage Palestinian girl shot dead after 'looking outside bedroom window' in Israel

A Palestinian teenage girl of the 1948 territories was fatally shot while looking out of her bedroom in the town of Kafr Kana in northern Israel.

Razan Abbas, 17, was watching a fight outside her room after being woken by the sound of gunfire when she was hit by a stray bullet, according to Haaretz. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but died soon after.

Six people were arrested on suspicion of the murder.

"Nobody cares. We are told that the weapons they are taking care of weapons, but there are enough weapons circulating in the area to provide for a militia," council member and relative Tareq Abbas was quoted by Haaretz as saying.

On Wednesday morning, Kafr Kana's local council announced a general strike and closed schools to mourn Abbas's death and in protest of violence in the 1948 Palestinian community.

Gun violence among Palestinians in Israel accounts for over 60 percent of all murders nationwide, despite them making up just over a fifth of the overall population.

There are more than 400,000 illegal weapons among Palestinians in Israel, who number just over two million.

Israeli authorities have consistently drawn criticism for allegedly failing to tackle intra-Palestinian violence within Israel's 1948 boundaries.

Palestinians living in Israel s face systematic discrimination and regularly complain of being treated as second-class citizens.

Large segments of the Israeli public see Palestinian citizens as a demographic threat to Israel's "Jewish identity", with discrimination entrenched across housing, public services, education, and employment.
