A private Kuwaiti transport company has been awarded a $10 million addition to a $17 million contract from the Department of Defense (DoD) to unload US cargo in Kuwaiti ports between March and September 2019.

The contract published on Tuesday specified that this brought the cumulative value of the contract to $27,709,945 from $17,709,944.97.

Cargo Transport System Co. in Safat, Kuwait was awarded the contract modification to continue providing "stevedoring and related terminal services to the 595th Transportation Brigade".

This includes vessel loading, vessel discharge, the receipt, disposition, transfer and transportation of cargo, customs clearance, yard management and management expertise in various ports in Kuwait between March and September 2019.

The 595th Transportation Brigade falls under the US Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC) and is stationed at Camp Arifjan, a US Army installation based in Kuwait since 1999.

Ports in Kuwait have been a transfer point for military supplies from Iraq. Thousands of battle-worn armored vehicles from Iraq arrived to Kuwaiti Shuaiba Port to be shipped back to the United States in 2010.
