The Lebanese President Michel Aoun received a written invitation from the Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, inviting him to visit Qatar to discuss enhancing bilateral ties between the two countries.

Aoun was also invited to attend the grand opening of the Qatar National Library in Doha.

A statement released by the presidency said that Aoun had "received a handwritten letter by the Qatari emir given to him by the Qatari ambassador in Lebanon…and it included an invitation to visit Qatar."

The grand opening of the library is set to take place on April 16.

Aoun’s last visit to the Qatari leader was in January 2017 after his election, which ended years of political paralysis in Lebanon.

The visit will take place ahead of a historic general election in Lebanon scheduled for May 6.

Qatar helped broker a previous political agreement in Lebanon in 2008 following clashes between Hizballah and its opponents in Beirut.
