An Emirati royal who was also a well-known fashion designer passed away in London this week, UAE state media have reported.

Khalid al-Qasimi was found dead at his home in the upmarket area of Knightsbridge on Monday morning, UK media reported, where homes sold for as much as £90 million.

Qasimi was the son of Sharjah ruler Sheikh Sultan Al-Qasimi and was the co-founder of the Qasimi fashion brand.

He designed clothes for a number of celebrities and were displayed at a number of shows, including London Fashion Week this June.

Sheikh Sultan announced on Tuesday that his son was "in the care of God".

"A three-day official mourning was announced in Sharjah, during which UAE flags will be flown at half-mast beginning with the arrival of the body and the funeral prayer," Gulf News reported on Tuesday.

A post-mortem was carried out but proved inconclusive, while no date for an inquest has been released.

"There had apparently been a party where some guests were taking drugs and having sex," a source told The Sun.

His fashion brand Qasimi, praised the young designer on their social media pages.

"Khalid was praised for his tenacious yet sensitive exploration of social-political issues, particularly pertaining to the Middle East and its sometimes strained relationship with the West, a subject very close to his heart and upbringing."
