Sweden investigates Israeli death threats against foreign minister

Swedish security authorities are investigating Israeli death threats against foreign minister Margot Wallstrom, according to media reports.

The threats were made in an article written by Israeli journalist Zvi Zameret, a former official at the ministry of education in the Hebrew language paper Makor Rishon, owned by American billionaire and Republican Party donor Sheldon Adelson.

Zameret last week suggested that Wallstorm deserves a similar fate as Count Folke Bernadotte, a Swedish UN diplomat murdered by a Zionist militia in 1948.

Bernadotte was sent by the UN Security Council to mediate a resolution of the Arab-Israeli in 1948, and recommended the withdrawal of Israeli forces and return of Palestinian refugees - making him a target for Zionist militias who murdered him in Jerusalem in September 1948.

Kristian Brangenfeldt, a spokeswoman for foreign minister Wallstorm told the Swedish publication ETC: "There are security people looking at this issue and we have no more comment than that."

The Swedish foreign minister angered Israeli politicians last month when she called for an independent investigation into Israel's frequent killings of Palestinian youths accused of attempting to carryout stabbing attacks.

"It is vital that there are thorough, credible investigations into these deaths in order to clarify and bring about possible accountability," Wallstrom said.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called Wallstrom's comments "outrageous, immoral and stupid" while the Israeli foreign ministry said that the Swedish foreign minister was not welcome in Israel.

Zvi Zameret who started his article by boasting about his friendship with a former member of the Stern Gang, the notorious Zionist militia that killed Bernadotte, wrote: "I am convinced and certain that her intentions [to destroy the State of Israel] will smoulder, just as all of the undignified count's intentions did."

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon slammed Israel's continuous settlement expansions as "an affront to the Palestinian people and to the international community" last week.

"Palestinian frustration is growing under the weight of a half century of occupation and the paralysis of the peace process," he said.

"As oppressed peoples have demonstrated throughout the ages, it is human nature to react to occupation, which often serves as a potent incubator of hate and extremism."

In response, Benjamin Netanyahu accused the UN chief of encouraging terrorism.
