The gas pipeline at the Deir Ali power station has returned to operation after completion of repairs, the Syrian Ministry of Oil, according to Syrian state TV on Saturday evening.

Islamic State (IS) earlier claimed responsibility for an attack on a gas pipeline at the Deir Ali power station, according to a statement published on Saturday on its affiliated Telegram channels.

The attack has briefly knocked out power in parts of the country.

Attacks on energy pipelines became common in Syria throughout its 10-year conflict, which has destroyed much of its infrastructure and killed at least half a million people.

IS remains active in smaller pockets in the country after it once controlled large swathes of territory.
