A memorial for slain Palestinian Shireen Abu Akleh, killed by Israeli forces, was inaugurated on Sunday in a northern Tunisia town.
The municipality of Bizerte inaugurated the memorial in the city’s Palestine Square for the veteran Al Jazeera journalist, who was shot dead by Israeli snipers on 11 May as she covered an Israeli raid in the occupied West Bank town of Jenin.
The memorial is a map of Palestine on a black stone tablet.

Speeches were given about Abu Akleh’s long career in the press, her achievements as well as work in exposing Israeli violations.
The initiative saw the contribution of a number of civil society organisations in the city.
Like many places around the world, Bizerte witnessed a protest condemning Abu Akleh’s killing and other crimes committed by Israeli forces.
Qatar-based Al Jazeera and the Palestinian Authority have accused Israeli soldiers of deliberately killing Abu Akleh.
Israel had previously rejected those allegations as a "blatant lie" when it claimed that a Palestinian gunman killed the reporter. However, Israel's military and officials later backtracked on the claim as more videos from the incident emerged.
