Two Palestinian women were hit by an electric scooter while participating in an anti-occupation protest in Tel Aviv, according to reports on Saturday evening.

The women were at a demonstration marking 55 years since the 1967 Israeli occupation when a scooter "deliberately ran over" them, according to a fellow protester who spoke to journalists at the scene.

The two women were taken to Ichilov hospital for further treatment, reported the Jerusalem Post

The rider was detained by police for questioning.

Videos shared online showed one woman, wearing a neckbrace, being carried away in a stretcher.

Thousands of Israeli Jews and Palestinians marched through Tel Aviv on Saturday to protest against years of Israeli occupation.

Many were carrying Palestinian flags, as seen in footage shared on social media.

In 1967, following six days of intense warfare, Israel captured land in the West Bank, Gaza and the Golan Heights, which it has occupied since and subjected Palestinian residents to systematic human rights abuses.
