The UAE is on the hunt for luxury real estate in Tel Aviv for its new Israeli embassy, The New Arab's Arabic-language service reported Friday quoting Israeli media.

Emirati officials have been in communication with real estate brokers in Israel in a bid of securing a luxurious property for its embassy and diplomatic mission.

The officials have also enquired about acquiring a luxury home for the UAE ambassador to Israel - who is still to be appointed.

Israel's Channel 12 reported that brokers are searching for a property in the areas around Tel Aviv.

At the top of the list for potential locations is Herzliya - an affluent area of the northern part of the Tel Aviv district, where many other diplomatic missions are located.

Among the proposed areas is also Savyon, near Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, the channel reported.

Israeli real estate brokers are reported to have said that the "Emiratis want to rent or buy property, and not buy a piece of land and build on it".

A date for the opening of the embassy has not been specified. The UAE has not released a statement or comment on the recent reports.

Last month, the UAE submitted an official request to Israeli Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi to open an UAE embassy in Tel Aviv.

The normalisation of relations between Israel and the UAE earlier this year shocked the Arab world.

Tel Aviv was considered the internationally-recognised capital city of Israel but US President Donald Trump broke decades of neutrality and moved his country's embassy to Jerusalem in 2018.
