The UK's new Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has been slammed for appointing right-wing politician Suella Braverman as home secretary, less than a week after she was sacked from the same position for two breaches of the ministerial code.

Braverman lost her job as home secretary on 19 October after being caught sending sensitive information via email to someone outside the government.

Braverman, a darling of the right wing of the Conservative Party, is known for her strong support for a controversial plan to deport asylum seekers to Rwanda.

Earlier in October, she told journalists it was "her dream" to see planes carrying refugees take off from the UK for Rwanda, seeing her dubbed 'Cruella' Braverman.

Rights groups have condemned her appointment as home secretary, fearing she will push hard for the deportation plan despite the legal hurdles in her way.

"Migrant Voice are disappointed to see the Prime Minister committing to hard-line anti-migrant policies with the re-appointment of Home Secretary Suella Braverman," the group said in a statement.

"We will be working out hardest to show the Prime Minister and his government that what this country needs is an immigration system that works to protect refugees, and treats all migrants with compassion."

The activist group called for safe and legal routes for migration to be opened for refugees to the UK and for a more inclusive visa system and society.

"With the appointment of the Prime Minister's new cabinet we don't see this happening, but we will continue our work to show the government that there is another way," the group added.

There have been renewed calls from the leaders of the opposition Labour Party, Liberal Democrats, and Scottish National Party to sack Braverman again over her breaking of the ministerial code.
