Flights between Sanaa and Cairo on Yemen's national carrier Yemenia Airways have been cancelled due to an air embargo imposed by the Saudi-led coalition.
There were only sparodic flights between the Yemeni and Egyptian capitals via a stop-off at Bisha airport in Saudi Arabia. Flights were frequently cancelled due to security concerns.
Sources at Cairo Airport said that the decision to stop the flights was due to the continued cancellations over the last three months due to a "deterioration of the situation" in Yemen.
Fighting has intensified following the breakdown in negotiations between the internationally-recognised government and rebels last month.
According to a statement on the Yemenia Airlines website, all flights to and from Sanaa have been suspended "from 9 August until further notice".
The Arab anti-Houthi military coalition previously said that it would allow humanitarian flights to arrive at the airport on 15 August.
"Sanaa international airport will be reopened to United Nations' flights and those of other agencies from Monday [15 August]," a statement from the coalition said.
