With US President Donald Trump recognising Jerusalem as Israel’s capital city, political officials in Tel Aviv are using as much leverage as possible to completely disregard the “imaginary state” that is Palestine.

Israeli Sports Minister Miri Regev, wrote a letter to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, asking to get “Palestine-occupied territory” removed from an NBA website. She said that recognising Palestine goes against Trump’s Jerusalem decision and that Palestine is an “imaginary state”.

On Friday, she thanked Silver for agreeing to her decision, saying "Israel's lands are not occupied; therefore what was written was false and should have been deleted”, in other words, Palestinian territories belong to Israel and an occupation of Palestinian lands is not only justifiable, but completely legitimate.

Also on Friday, US ambassador to Israel accused Palestinians of being “anti-Semitic” for resenting Trump’s Jerusalem decision, which completely departs the Oslo Accords.

He said the reaction of Palestinians was “ugly” and claimed that the US is the only country that “can sponsor a peace agreement”, discrediting threats by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas that Palestine will refuse to co-operate with any US sponsored deals.

He also claimed that Palestinians reacted “emotionally” to Trump’s flagrant violation of the Oslo Accords, which called for Tel Aviv to be the capital of Israel, and Ramallah to be the capital of a future Palestinian state (contrary to popular belief, late Palestinian President Yasser Arafat failed to secure Palestinian statehood in the Oslo Accords).

While Israel has been for years, covertly implementing what is seemingly to be a new change in their policy regarding Palestine and the two state solution, the annexation of the West Bank by building settlements has been proving otherwise.

Zionists have been inflicting violence against the native Palestinian population since before the creation of Israel, so again, violence against Palestinians is not something new. It has however spiked in recent weeks with more than 600 Palestinians being detained by Israel in less than a month.

Israel for decades has been building settlements on Palestinian land, disregarding the West Bank as Palestinian by claiming a biblical right to the land as they continue to force Palestinians out of their land, stealing Palestinian food and culture as a form of soft-ethnic cleansing, yet claiming they want “peace” in the form of implementing the internationally endorsed two-state solution at the same time.

The racism that comes out of Tel Aviv is not something new, but has surged as the international arena has created a safe-space for such inflammatory rhetoric to come out.

The official line coming out of top ranking Israeli ministers is not becoming more violent, or ironic, the violence has always been there and it has always been ironic that Israeli officials continued to talk about peace and the two state solution while expanding an illegal occupation. It is merely becoming less contradictory with their policy decisions.
