With what many describe as ethnic cleansing against Rohingya Muslims escalating, Muslims are taking to social media to express their anger, solidarity and disdain at the tragedy.

Nearly 90,000 Rohingya have flooded into Bangladesh over the past 11 days as they continue to flee violence and persecution.

The impoverished region bordering Bangladesh has been a crucible of communal tensions between Muslims and Buddhists for years, with the Rohingya forced to live under apartheid-like restrictions on movement and citizenship.

As the international community began to pay attention to the plight of the Rohingya, de-facto Myanmar ruler Aung San Suu Kyi had caused controversy after she accused aid workers in Myanmar of aiding “terrorists” as they had tried to send help to the suppressed population.

Her statement then forced 100 UN aid workers to escape, fearing reprisals over the spurious claims from Suu Kyi's office linking them to militants.

People couldn't help but express anger at the fact that victims are being shunned because of their religion.


There were calls to strip Aung San Suu Kyi from her Nobel Peace Prize


Her alleged history with Islamophobia was also highlighted...


People were also angry about the lack of solidarity from other Muslim states...
