Pictures of a dog flying in first class on a Royal Air Maroc flight from Casablanca to New York, without being caged or restrained, have emerged on social media.

In one picture, the dog is seen enjoying the view outside the airplane window, sitting quietly next to his owner.

Another picture shows the dog examining a fancy meal.

Safiaa Saad, the young passenger who was on the flight and who first shared the pictures of the lucky pitbull sitting in a window seat, was not impressed.

"Personally, I did not remain silent. I have spread the news...and messaged the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)," she wrote.

Saad said the dog's presence was in clear breach of regulations, posed a threat to passengers and reflected corruption and favouritism.

Saad's outrage was echoed by some on social media, who expressed concern that the dog could have attacked passengers.

 .

Others disagreed. "The dog seems quiet and better behaved than many children," wrote social media user Hamad Qahtani.

Since only animals weighing less than 2 kilos can accompany passengers and in cages, as Saad said, some speculated the VIP dog belonged to someone important or that "bribes" were involved.

"Money can make even dogs rule!" wrote Mashout al-Ajami.
