Israeli soldiers killed a Palestinian doctor and wounded two others during a raid on a house in the occupied West Bank on Thursday, Palestinian medical officials said.

A doctor in a Hebron hospital said a 52-year-old man had been shot and killed and two of his sons were wounded.

The doctor identified the man as Falah Abu Maria.

An Israeli military spokeswoman used the familiar pretext saying the  soldiers were "attacked" by "a mob" while trying to detain a Palestinian in the village of Beit Ummar, and opened fire on the main attacker.

Yusuf abu Maria, an activist in the town, said there had not been any clashes and that the shooting took place inside a house.

On Wednesday, Israel killed a young Palestinian in a separate arrest raid.

Mohammed Alawneh, 22, was killed in  the village of Birqin, west of Jenin. He was shot in the chest and died shortly after arriving at hospital in Jenin, a medical source said.

Alawneh is the 16th Palestinian to be killed by Israeli forces this year.

Since the beginning of 2014, Israeli forces have injured an average of 35 Palestinians every week, Ma'an news agency reported.
