Four United States soldiers and two international peacekeepers have been injured by improvised explosive devices in the northeast Sinai region of Egypt.

The Pentagon said the soldiers were airlifted Thursday to a medical facility and are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The mission of the Multinational Force and Observers is to support the 1979 peace treaty between Israel and Egypt.

"The safety and security of U.S. forces remains our top priority," the Pentagon said. The wounded personnel were not publically identified.

Also on Thursday three alleged "militants" were killed by Egyptian military forces near Sheikh Zuwaid city in North Sinai.

Wilayat Sinai - an IS affiliate in the region - have recently released new videos depicting operations targeting Egyptian security forces.
