Israel will build hundreds of new homes in a settlement deemed illegal under international law in response to a Palestinian teenager stabbing three Israelis on Thursday.
"The best answer to terrorism is the expansion of settlements," Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman wrote on Twitter, announcing 400 new housing units in the Adam settlement, north of Jerusalem in the occupied West Bank.
The teenage attacker snuck into the settlement on Thursday evening, the Israeli army said, before attacking three settlers, killing one - later identified as Yotam Ovadia, 31. The knifeman was shot dead on the scene.
The attacker was later identified by official Palestinian media as Mohammed Dar Youssef, a 17-year-old from the village of Kobar.
On Friday, the Israeli military said it had questioned a number of his family members and suspended their work permits.
Hamas, which governs the blockaded Gaza Strip, praised the "courageous operation" without claiming responsibility for it.

"The West Bank is ready and able to avenge the blood of the martyrs," the group said in a statement.
Lone Palestinian attackers have carried out multiple deadly stabbings and car-rammings against Israelis in recent years.
More than 600,000 Israeli Jews live in settlements in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, in territories seized during the 1967 war. The Geneva Conventions outlaw the transfer of a civilian population into a military-occupied area, and so the constructions are considered illegal under international law.
Israeli armed forces have shot and killed at least 150 Palestinians in 2018, the majority during protests in the Gaza Strip.
