Three Syrian refugees were killed in floods after torrential rain struck their camp in the northwestern province of Idlib.
Three Syrians were killed on Friday after flash floods struck a refugee camp in the northwestern province of Idlib, according to a report by Arabi21.

The torrents resulted from heavy rainfall in the region, flooding at least 75 tents in the Kafr Bani camp, as well as humanitarian aid that had arrived the day before.

White Helmets crews are searching for two people who went missing, according to the report.

Flash floods have previously been an issue for the already run-down camps in northwest Syria, destroying tents and adding hardship to those displaced by war.

Last year, more than 40,000 displaced people in northwestern Syria witnessed their camps flooded by heavy rains over the span of only three days in March, with around 14 camps in Idlib affected.

The Covid-19 pandemic also looms over Idlib, which has recently experienced new clashes. NGOs monitoring the region have expressed alarm at the possibility of a devastating outbreak.

Amid war-torn Syria's devastating conflict, over 1 million Syrians have been displaced by fighting in Idlib alone.
