The brother of a Lebanese pop star and wanted runaway militant surrendered to Lebanon's army outside a Palestinian refugee camp overnight on Sunday after suffering from ill health, security sources said.
Fadi Shamandar, who is popularly known as Fadi Shaker, handed himself over to an army intelligence checkpoint at the entrance of the Palestinian Ain Al-Hilweh refugee camp near the southern city of Sidon.
Shamandar then said his health had declined and requested to be taken to a nearby hospital.
He is the brother of well-known pop singer-turned-extremist Fadel Shaker, who was sentenced to 22 years in prison in December for providing financial and logistical support to a “terrorist” organisation.
The brothers are wanted in connection to an attack on army units with an armed group led by radical preacher Ahmad al-Assir in 2013 in Abra, Sidon.
The days-long fighting led to the death of more than a dozen soldiers and the wounding of 150 others.
Shaker is currently hiding out in Ain al-Hilweh.
