Inter-Arab military involvements since 1945 (al-Araby al-Jadeed)
It's a supposed dream that harks back to the golden era of Arab nationalism in the 1950's and 60's - a united Arab army that would be able to defend the Arab world.

At the end of the 26th Arab League meeting in Cairo on March 29 the Egyptian president Abdel Fattah al-Sisi made the announcement: Arab leaderss had agreed, "on principle", to a joint Arab military force.

Yet, although the first mentions of a joint Arab military force decades ago were accompanied by rallying cries to free the Palestinians and lead to a future united Arab state, it appears that recent Arab military endeavours have shown that a modern force would more likely be used to police the region.

And, considering the frequent inter-Arab disputes, as demonstrated by this infographic, it is perhaps hard to see how an Arab military force will remain united.
