Islamic school teacher among victims of Brussels attack

A Muslim gym teacher has been confirmed amongst the dead following the attacks on Brussels that took place on Tuesday.

Fears about Loubna Lafquiri's welfare arose after she was absent from work on Tuesday when the attacks occurred. Her death was confirmed by her sister, Ihsane Bari, in a Facebook post on Thursday.

"It is with a heavy heart filled with grief that we announce the death of our sister Lobna Lafquiri", the Facebook post read.

Bari went on to describe the mother of three as "an exemplary teacher" who was "torn from her family by cowards."

Lafquiri, a Belgian of Moroccan descent, was one of 31 victims who were killed in the attacks on Belgium's Zaventem airport and Maelbeek metro station which were claimed by the Islamic State group.

Lafquiri fell victim to the attackers who bombed the train that she was commuting on.

Speaking to CNN, a co-founder of the Islamic school that Lafquiri worked at questioned the stated religious motives of the attackers.

"It's simple," Mohamed Allaf said. "Whoever supports these people who harm so many others, who paralyse the lives of those around them with fear, is not a human being. We must not support these people, we must report them."

Four other Moroccans were wounded in Tuesday's attacks, one with serious injuries according to the Moroccan embassy in Brussels.

Since the events in Belgium's capital on Tuesday, three men have been charged with terrorist offences in connection to the attacks.
