Clarke shared her support for the 'Action for Sama' campaign [Instagram]
Actress Emilia Clarke shared her support for the "millions of Syrians fighting for peace and dignity" on Monday, which marked the 10th anniversary of the revolution.
"It has been 10 years since the Syrian people took a stand for freedom and dignity," the "Game of Thrones" star wrote in an Instagram post.
Clarke urged fans to give their support to Action For Sama, a campaign to end the bombardment of hospitals and other healthcare facilities in Syria.
Action for Sama was founded by Waad Al-Kateab, director of the award-winning documentary "For Sama".
"I have seen the film FOR SAMA and I stand with Waad, her family and the millions of Syrians fighting for peace and dignity," Clarke wrote.
The Syrian regime and its ally Russia have been accused of deliberately and systemically targeting hospitals over the course of the brutal civil war.
At least 350 healthcare facilities were targeted in at least 595 attacks between March 2011 and February 2020, according to Physicians for Human Rights (PHR). All but 59 of those attacks were attributed to the Syrian regime and allied forces.
More than 900 medical personnel were killed during that same period, according to PHR.
In 2014, the UNOCHA established a deconflict mechanism to register the locations of hospitals and other humanitarian sites but the bombing of healthcare facilities continued unabated.
Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen in "Game of Thrones", urged fans to watch "For Sama" when it was released in 2019.
"This film is about life, death, and the fragile space between where humanity lives, breathes and survives," she said at the time.
The film follows the story of Al-Kateab as she falls in love, gets married, and has a baby, Sama, in besieged Aleppo.
It won the BAFTA and British Indepent Film awards for best documentary, as well as the "L'oeil d'or" prize at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival.
