A growing number of House Democrats are voicing concern over the impending Iran nuclear deal, according to a report by Jewish Insider.
Nearly 30 Democratic members of Congress have signed a new letter by Representative Josh Gottheimer of New Jersey, who has previously gathered 18 signatures over concern for the deal.
US President Joe Biden's administration has working to indirectly renegotiate the Iran Nuclear Deal, formally the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, agreed upon by President Barack Obama in 2015 and then nixed by President Donald Trump in 2018.
The negotiations, which have been taking place in Vienna since April 2021, appear to be in the final stages, with both sides making important concluding stipulations.
This latest letter addressed to President Biden has garnered more than 40 signatures, mostly by Democrats. A major aim of the letter appears to be to keep most sanctions in place, given alleged Iranian-linked attacks on US targets. Sanctions relief, however, is the main appeal for Iran to renegotiate the deal.
The letter also urges that Russia not be allowed to engage in nuclear development projects with Iran.
Before any deal is signed, the lawmakers are requesting that the complete agreement is released to Congress for review.
