Iran's parliamentary chairman, Ali Larijani, has met with Khaled Meshaal, head of the Hamas political office, in the Qatari capital.

Regional developments were discussed, but a Hamas spokesman gave few further details.

"Khaled Meshaal and a delegation of Hamas leaders met with Larijani and his delegation in Doha this evening," read a Hamas statement.

"During the meeting opinions were exchanged on the developments to the Palestinian issue and their ramifications in light of the Zionist threats to Jerusalem, the al-Aqsa mosque and the continued siege on the Gaza Strip."

The relationship between Hamas and Tehran has been strained ever even since Meshaal and Hamas leaders left the Syrian capital, Damascus, where they had set up base, because of the bloody ongoing civil war.
