Hamas has announced that it will meet with the 19 members of its new political bureau in the Egyptian capital, Cairo on Sunday, to discuss Palestinian developments. 

"The meeting will be the first of the political bureau following the end of the group's recent internal elections," a Hamas official anonymously told Anadolu Agency as they had not been authorised to talk with the press. 

The source also said Hamas members from Gaza, Turkey, and Qatar are expected to arrive in Cairo to talk through some of the group’s internal issues.

On 10 May, Israel launched relentless strikes on the besieged Gaza strip, which went on for 11 days after Egypt brokered a ceasefire between Tel Aviv and Hamas.

The ceasefire has since been violated by Israel in September, after it struck multiple locations around, Gaza where tensions were high following the escape of six Palestinian detainees from Israel’s Gilboa prison.

Hamas has demanded the release of the six Gilboa Prison escapees' in prisoner-swap negotiations with Israel, according to the movement.

Hamas political bureau member Zaher Jabarin told The New Arab's Arabic service Al-Araby Al-Jadeed that the group is still engaging with mediators despite Israeli hesitancy.
