Israel has deployed its Iron Dome defence system south of Lebanon's border with Israel, according to Yoni Saada Marom, a commander in the Israeli air force.

Iron Dome is designed to intercept and destroy incoming short-range rockets and artillery shells.

FoxNews.com who interviewed Marom said Israel has deployed the system along its northern border amid fears the Lebanese resistance, Hizballah, could get more cash and weapons from its supporter Iran after the latter's nuclear deal with the West.

The nuclear deal, if implemented, will see sanctions imposed on Iran by the UN and the West lifted.

Marom did not comment on the link between the nuclear deal and the Israeli move but he told the news website: "We are dealing with the challenges and scenarios that we think Hizballah will bring. One of the scenarios could be that, like Hamas, they will try and challenge us with a variety of threats simultaneously."

Israel, however, has been threatening to kill Lebanese civilians if a war erupts between the two countries.

"We are going to hurt Lebanese civilians in any rounds of future hostilities, as we did it in Gaza," said Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon at a conference in Jerusalem on 28 July.

Hassan Nasrallah, Hizballah's secretary general, said his group was proud of Iran's financial backing and "the support we get from Iran is enough", at a ceremony to honour sons and daughters of fallen Hizballah fighters on 25 July.

Nasrallah also said in a speech addressing the Conference of International Union of Resistance Scholars on 28 July in Beirut that the resistance movement will never give up on backing Palestine and liberating al-Quds (Jerusalem). He vowed to counter any attempt by Arabs to normalise relations with the Israeli regime.
