Israel wants to show US President Joe Biden its Iron Beam laser defence system when he visits the country next month, Israeli media reported Thursday, in an effort to secure funding.

Israel will show Biden the system at the Palmachim air base, the Walla news outlet reported, citing Israeli defence ministry and military sources.

Tel Aviv is looking for more investment in Iron Beam, the sources said.

The Israeli army and defence ministry and the US Department of Defence have reportedly already discussed the system, which users lasers to super-heat and disable rockets and drones.

Israel said in April that it had successfully tested Iron Beam. Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said the system would enter operation by early 2023.

Biden is visiting Israel and the occupied Palestinian West Bank in July, the White House said earlier this week.

The US has invested heavily in other Israeli military technology, including the Iron Dome missile defence system which was only partially successful in preventing Hamas rockets landing in Israel during the 2021 Gaza war.
