Israeli forces killed a Palestinian on Wednesday in a military raid on the refugee camp of Al-Faraa near Tubas, in the northern occupied West Bank.

The victim was Younes Al-Tayeh, a 21-year-old from the Al-Faraa refugee camp. According to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, he was killed by a direct bullet that struck his heart.

"Younes was a construction worker, he had a twin brother and two more siblings", Mohammad Al-Tayeh, his uncle, told The New Arab.

"He was the main source of income and support to his family since his father died some years ago", noted the uncle. "He was saving to get married, and had many hopes in the future, like improving his and his family's conditions."

"The Israeli army raided the refugee camp early in the morning and headed to our house, and proceeded to arrest two of Younes’s cousins," the uncle said.

"Some local youth began to confront the soldiers by throwing stones at them, at the same time that Younes rushed to the house at the news of the raid while the soldiers were shooting back at the youth. That was when he was hit in the chest", he added.

"Younes remained bleeding on the floor for more than half an hour. Israeli soldiers didn't allow anyone to approach the surroundings of the house, and later the soldiers themselves told the people to come and take Younes."

Al-Tayeh was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the Tubas hospital. Palestinian factions and local associations in Tubas and Al-Faraa camp called for a general strike in the city, as a sign of mourning for Al-Tayeh.

Israeli media quoted the Israeli army saying claiming that its troops raided Al-Faraa camp to arrest a wanted Palestinian and that Palestinians threw an improvised explosive and fired shots at the raiding Israeli forces.

According to the Israeli reports, the army also said that "it was aware of a Palestinian fatality".

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry condemned the killing of Younes Al-Tayeh in a statement, remarking, "Israel wants to replace the peace process with security colonial solutions".

Meanwhile, Israeli forces continued their raids across the West Bank, arresting around 22 Palestinians between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, according to the Palestinian Prisoners' Club.

"Most of the arrests were made in Silwad, east of Ramallah, in Beita, south of Nablus and in Doura, south of Hebron", Amani Sarahneh, spokesperson for the Prisoners' Club told The New Arab.

"Silwad has been particularly targeted by Israeli forces in the recent month, with arrest campaigns happening in the town on a weekly basis", she added.

On Monday, the Chief of the Israeli army staff, Aviv Kohavi, said that its troops had arrested around 500 Palestinians from the West Bank in recent weeks.

Younes Tayeh is the third Palestinian killed by Israeli forces in three days, the 148th since the beginning of 2022.
