A Jordanian Air Force pilot died on Monday after a helicopter crash, the country's army said.

Major Ali Ahmed al-Harasis died after the Cobra military helicopter crashed in the Al-Baqaa area north of the capital Amman during a training flight, the army said in a statement on its website published Tuesday. He was taken to hospital but passed away later.

Footage purportedly of the helicopter crash was shared on social media by local news sites. The New Arab cannot verify the authenticity of the video.

The army posted a video to its Facebook page on Tuesday, commemorating al-Harasis and other military casualties.

The pilot's funeral was held in Amman on Tuesday, local media reported.

Jordan's army is currently wrapped up in anti-drug smuggling operations at its border with Syria.
