A Jordanian tourist bus carrying 39 pilgrims was robbed in the Saudi holy city of Mecca, reports authorities confirmed on Thursday, noting the pilgrims lost their passports.

The Director of the Operations Centre at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs of Jordan said work is under way to issue travel documents for a group of pilgrims who lost their passports in the Mecca area of ​​Saudi Arabia.

Sufian al-Qudah said in a statement on Wednesday that the operations centre was following up with the Jordanian consulate in Jeddah the process of issuing necessary travel documents that would allow them to return to Jordan via the border crossing following the assault.

The majority of the pilgrims were women, but one child was also on board the bus.
