Mia Khalifa, Oppenheimer, Ashura dominate Arabic Wikipedia's most read articles in July

Former adult movie star Mia Khalifa, Jewish-American scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer, and the Muslim day of Ashura all featured on Arabic Wikipedia's top 15 most-viewed articles for July.

Kicking off the list was Ashura, a day of mourning for Shia Muslims across the world over the death of their third leader, Hussein, a Facebook post from Arabic Wikipedia showed.

Sunni Muslims mark the occasion for a different reason - the liberation of the Israelites from oppression in Egypt.

The Ashura article drew 376,766 visits last month, ahead of second-place YouTube with 312,716.

American physicist Robert Oppenheimer, who played a key role in creating the nuclear bomb, came in third amid the recent release of the blockbuster film about his life.

Oppenheimer the movie took 13th place.

Several articles related to Islam featured in the list, with the Muslim "fajr" or dawn prayer taking fourth spot and the "istikhara" prayer for guidance behind it in fifth.

Things took a more sinful turn with the sixth-place entry, which went to Lebanese American former porn star Mia Khalifa, whose Arabic Wikipedia page attracted 217,054 visits in July.

Football, a sport immensely popular in the Arab world, also made several appearances with pages including Spanish football giants Barcelona and Saudi side Al-Nassr on the list.

Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portuguese football superstar who made his debut for Al-Nassr in January, came in at 15th place with 169,960 views.
