A train collision in Tunisia on Thursday left more than 30 people wounded.

The collision took place after one train crashed into another that was waiting at the terminal of the main Megrine Riadh station in the southern outskirts of the capital, Tunis.

The trains did not leave their tracks but did cause material damage.

Some injured were transported to three different hospitals in the capital while others were treated on site.

An investigation was opened into the cause of the accident.

Such incidents have been frequent in Tunisia in recent years due to an ageing train fleet and other technical errors.

The Tunisian National Railways Company records 100 railway accidents annually, most of which happen at railway-road intersections.
