PA thwarting attacks against Israel army in West Bank: Israeli media

The Palestinian Authority is thwarting attacks against the Israeli army in the occupied West Bank, Israel's public broadcaster has said.

Kan reported that after the "intensification of Israeli army operations" in refugee camps in the territory, members of the Palestinian security forces have in recent days begun "working against armed groups and preventing them from planting explosive devices in roads and alleys".

The broadcaster referred to operations of this sort in Nur Shams refugee camp near Tulkarm and Jenin refugee camp.

According to Kan, the operations were taking place under the pretext that the Israeli military is forced to use heavy machinery to detect buried explosives, leading to widespread destruction of infrastructure.

The Israeli broadcaster claimed that Palestinian security was carrying out these operations "at the request of a part of Palestinian society".

Israeli forces have intensified their attacks in the West Bank since the outbreak of the Gaza war on 7 October.

More than 300 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces and settlers in the West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem, since 7 October, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Israeli forces reportedly detained a seriously injured boy aged 17 "while he was being transported by ambulance" between two hospitals, the Palestinian health ministry said on Telegram on Friday.

Israel has also arrested thousands in the West Bank since the war began, according to prisoners' groups.

Israel's campaign against the Gaza Strip has so far killed more than 21,800 people. Hospitals, ambulances, residential buildings and places of worship have been attacked.

South Africa submitted a case alleging Israel is perpetrating genocide in the strip at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Friday.

The filing was "warmly welcomed" by Palestinian rights groups al-Haq, Al Mezan, and the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights.
