Saudi Arabia has foiled an attempt to smuggle millions of amphetamine drugs into the country, state-run Saudi Press Agency reported.

The General Directorate of Narcotics Control's spokesman Mohammad Al-Nujaidi said the agency, in joint work with the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority in Jeddah, managed to halt an attempt to smuggle 2,700,000 amphetamine tablets, hidden inside the roof of a truck trailer.

Al-Nujaidi said the three individuals involved in the case were arrested.

He added that the detainees were apprehended and faced initial legal procedures before being sent to the relevant judicial authorities.

Last month, Saudi authorities foiled an attempt to smuggle millions of amphetamine pills stashed in a pomegranate shipment from Lebanon at Dammam’s King Abdulaziz Port.

In December last year, Saudi authorities also seized a total of 19 million pills of the same drug in raids across the country, arresting 16 people, including Saudi nationals.
