Lina Abu Akleh has been named on TIME100 Next's list for 2022, owing to her tireless work in holding Israel to account for the killing of her journalist aunt Shireen Abu Akleh.

Lina has made frequent media appearances since Shireen's death in May who was reporting for Al Jazeera on Israeli raids in Jenin when she was killed.

Over the past four months, Lina has fought hard to counter Israeli narratives that its soldiers were not responsible for her aunt's death and saw her campaigning awarded by being named on Time's illustrious Next 100 list.

Time100 Next differs from the magazine's annual 100 list as it recognises rising stars who are "shaping the future of business, entertainment, sports, politics, science, health and more".

"Truly honored to have been named to the 2022 TIME100 Next list—The full list can be found at http://time.com/next and will be on newsstands starting Friday, Sept. 30. #TIME100NEXT," the activist tweeted.

Multiple witnesses and investigations contradicted claims Israel had made for months that it was not responsible for Shireen's death, until it finally conceded that its soldiers were likely shot the journalist.

Shireen was wearing a bulletproof vest with 'PRESS' written on it when she was shot in the head.

Lina has also met US lawmakers and filed a complaint to the International Criminal Court about Shireen's killing, which activists and witnesses claim was deliberate.

Shireen Abu Akleh was a hugely influential journalist reporting for Al Jazeera from the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem for 25 years.

She has since been awarded a number of posthumous journalism and human rights awards for her groundbreaking work with streets named after her across the world.

Liberal Democrat MP and Foreign Affair Spokesperson Layla Moran, whose mother is Palestinian, was among the many figures who welcomed the recognition for Lina's campaigning.

"@LinaAbuAkleh was amazing to meet you especially on the day you were named as a @TIME 100 most influential people," she tweeted.
