UK: Boris Johnson leaves Downing Street throwing support behind Liz Truss
Boris Johnson has left Downing Street after his tumultuous premiership and hailed in a new era under his successor Liz Truss.

Britain's Boris Johnson said on Tuesday his successor Liz Truss would do everything to help people cope with sky-rocketing energy prices, using his departure speech to throw his support behind the country's new prime minister.
"And I know that Liz Truss and this compassionate Conservative government will do everything we can to get people through this crisis and this country will endure it and we will win," he said, standing in front of the door of his Number 10 Downing Street office and residence.
Boris Johnson was forced to resign from office following a slew of scandals surrounding his conduct and that of his party. As he leaves Downing Street, the country faces a looming energy crisis and skyrocketing inflation following the invasion of Ukraine, Brexit and a decade of austerity under the Tory government.
Liz Truss was nominated as the next prime minister by a handful of members of the Conservative Party. She alluded in her victory speech that a general election would not take place until 2024.

"Thank you for putting your trust in me to lead and deliver for our great country," Truss said.
"I will take bold action to get all of us through these tough times, grow our economy, and unleash the United Kingdom's potential."
Johnson will travel to Scotland to meet Queen Elizabeth at her Balmoral Castle residence to officially tender his resignation.
Truss will follow him and be asked to form a government by the monarch. Truss will then address the country and start appointments to her top team of ministers.
Long the front-runner to replace Johnson, Truss will become the Conservatives' fourth prime minister in six years.
