'Wasteman' Trump to make state visit to UK in June

US President Donald Trump will pay a state visit to the UK in June, as a guest of Queen Elizabeth II, a year after he was lambasted for bad etiquette when walking in front of the Queen during tea.

Buckingham Palace said Trump and his wife, Melania, have "accepted an invitation from Her Majesty The Queen to pay a State Visit to the United Kingdom".

The visit will take place from 3 to 5 June.

Trump made an official trip to the UK last summer, though that was not a state visit, which typically features royal pomp including a banquet with the queen at Buckingham Palace.

UK Prime Minister Theresa May extended the invitation for a state visit more than two years ago, but the trip has been deferred amid concerns about the controversial president's reception.

Protests broke out across the UK when he eventually visited last July, with a nappy-clad orange baby bimb taking flight across the capital London upon his arrival.

The president was even banned from entering Sheffield after the city's mayor branded him a "wasteman" for his divisive politics.

"I Magid Magid, Lord Mayor & first citizen of this city hereby declare that not only is Donald J Trump (@realDonaldTrump) a WASTEMAN, but he is also henceforth banned from the great city of Sheffield!", he tweeted at the time.

Trump has proved to be as divisive on this side of the Atlantic, as he has in the US. Trump's one-time security adviser Steve Bannon has visited leaders of several European far-right parties in Europe in recent months, where he is trying to mobilise a nationalist backlash against the traditional progressive politics of the continent.
