Two Palestinians including a teenage boy were shot and injured by Israeli forces in two separate incidents in occupied East Jerusalem on Friday evening, official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.

Abed Amer al-Zaghal, 15, was shot in the head and critically injured while walking in the Silwan neighbourhood, according to witnesses.

Reports indicated that the teenager was shot by a guard working at an illegal Israeli settlement in the neighbourhood.

The boy was rushed to hospital, and Israeli forces raided the area after the shooting, according to WAFA.

Another Palestinian was seriously injured when Israeli forces opened fire on a vehicle in the Shuafat refugee camp.

Local sources said the injured person, in their 20s, was rushed to hospital, while another Palestinian was detained.

Israeli violence in the occupied West Bank has surged to levels unseen in nearly two decades, with more than 220 Palestinians killed by Israeli forces and settlers since the start of 2023.
