Youssef Khayat: Lebanon basketballer 'Yo-Yo' to join Michigan Wolverines
Lebanese basketballer Youssef Khayat is set to join the University of Michigan's side next season on a scholarship.
Khayat, who is nicknamed "Yo-Yo", confirmed on Sunday that he had committed to playing for the Michigan Wolverines, opting for the side in maize and blue over the three others in his final four.
The 19-year-old is part of the Lebanese national side and performed well in France this season, The Detroit News reported.
Speaking with The Field of 68 basketball podcast network, he said: "Honestly from the start, I felt at home with the coaching staff, with the way they presented it, with coach Juwan [Howard], who is one of the best coaches right now in college basketball or even in basketball."
Khayat, who stands at 6ft 8ins, posted a trailer to Twitter featuring highlights from his games and confirming his commitment to Michigan.
The video prompted a positive response from social media users.
"Juwan Howard and the staff are bringing impact players into the program," one Michigan fan tweeted. "Love this guy's game!"
Publisher of Sports Illustrated's Wolverine Digest Brandon Brown commented: "Dude goes to the rim with a purpose."
One user even suggested Khayat could be headed for even greater heights, saying: "Yes sir, welcome to the family. Coach Howard will get you ready for the NBA!"
