Hundreds of protesters in the city of San Sebastian paid tribute to the victims of Israel's genocidal and relentless war in Gaza by lying down on the ground to the sound of sirens.
The gathering was organised by the Gernika-Palestina collective, a group of artists and activists from Spain's Basque country, drawing a parallel between the situation in Gaza and the attack on the city of Guernica in 1937, which inspired Pablo Picasso's eponymous painting.
The lie-in was held next to an Eduardo Chillida sculpture on San Sebastian's Concha Bay on Sunday. Israel's military assault on Gaza has displaced nearly its entire 2.3 million population, caused a starvation crisis, flattened most of the enclave, killed over 31,000 people and led to accusations of genocide being probed in the International Court of Justice in The Hague.
