Israel is threatening to carry out what many fear will be a "Second Nakba" for Palestinians, and the world is letting it happen. Earlier today, the Israeli army ordered residents of the north of the Gaza Strip to evacuate amid the indiscriminate bombing, amid reports that they will not be allowed to return.

Among the people trapped in the Gaza Strip are the parents-in-law of Scottish First Minister Hamza Yousaf, who - although they are normally based in Scotland - were in Gaza for a visit when Israel's relentless bombardments started last weekend.

Yousaf's wife is of Palestinian background. Israeli bombing has, at the time of writing, killed 1,799 Palestinians in Gaza, while 6,388 others have been injured. Among the dead are 500 children. The death toll in Israel from last weekend's surprise attack launched by Hamas and other Palestinian militants is over 1,300.
