Palestinian school suspends classes after Israeli skunk water attack

A Palestinian school in occupied East Jerusalem suspended all classes on Saturday after Israeli forces attacked it with skunk spray.

Classes were suspended at the Khaled Rashid School, located in Al-Tur neighbourhood of East Jerusalem, after it was flooded with skunk water sprayed inside the school during confrontations with locals, according to Palestinian Authority's news agency Wafa.

The confrontations came in response to Israeli forces fatally shooting resident Mohammad Abu Jumaa, 23, following an alleged stabbing attack near the illegal Israeli settlement of Modain.

Homes, a Palestinian police van and other local buildings were sprayed with skunk water, causing distress among residents who were forced to endure the foul odour throughout the area.

Since January, at least 90 Palestinians have been killed in the occupied West Bank by Israeli forces. Israel intensified its raids in the spring following a spate of lethal street attacks by Palestinians that killed 18 people.

Israel has occupied the West Bank illegally since 1967, and commits various abuses against Palestinian residents, human rights groups say.

More than 700,000 Jewish Israelis live in settlements in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, in constructions considered illegal under international law.

Under Israeli military law, Palestinians cannot build structures in the area without permits, which are typically refused and demolitions are common.
